Which Gas Detector can Detect Multiple Gases?
Gas hazards can be broadly categorised as either asphyxiating (depriving the body of oxygen), toxic, or combustible. For industrial facilities, oil refineries, chemical plants, wastewater treatment plants, and a host of other industries, gas detection prevents potential disasters with early identification of gas leaks and hazardous conditions.
How does a gas detector work?
The gas detectors are designed to detect the abnormal presence of single, dual or multiple gases that could be expected in a specific area. The instant gas concentration exceeds pre-programmed alarm threshold, the gas detector alerts the user to the risk of exposure so he can take the necessary steps to stay safe.
Single gas detectors detect one target gas, while Portable multi gas detectors can detect multiple target gases.
For most environments, where multiple gas hazards may be present, the decision to choose between single and multi gas detectors requires careful consideration. Confined spaces must be tested for combustible gases, oxygen deficiency or enrichment, and the presence of two or three specific toxic gases. Many companies that primarily need to monitor a single gas choose to supplement this with monitoring of combustible gases, O2 and CO. Measuring these three gases along with H2S is especially common in the oil and gas industry.
Portable multi gas detectors such as the E4000 can be configured to detect any 4 gases, and display all of them simultaneously. The screen will show the levels of each gas, and provide audible and visible alarms if flammable or toxic gases are present.
