Does a 4 Gas Detector Detect Ammonia?

Dec 18, 2025

A standard 4 gas detector is not capable of detecting ammonia. If ammonia is a potential hazard, you must use a dedicated ammonia detector or a multi-gas monitor specifically configured with an ammonia sensor.

The standard 4 gas detector is the most commonly used portable gas detection device in industrial and emergency response settings. It is typically designed to simultaneously monitor the following four hazardous atmospheric conditions:

Combustible Gases (LEL)
Oxygen (O₂)
Carbon Monoxide (CO)
Hydrogen Sulfide (H₂S)

The E4000 portable multi gas detector is the ideal solution for personal protection against ammonia gas leaks. It measures continuously maximum four gases of combustible gas (CH4), O2 and toxic gases (NH3, H2S, CO), and displays their concentrations. Once the risk occurs, it also raises the alarm (visual, audible and vibrative). By adopting interchangeable smart sensor module, it can be made for detecting 2 gases, 3 gases and 4 gases.
